Storytelling is as old as humans are, since language has existed. Many stories throughout history were actually told to teach people lessons about life, usually warnings about dangers of life. They passed down from generation to generation, from grandparents to adults to kids, then to their kids, then to their kids and on so on.... Did you know World Storytelling Day is on March 20th!
What is World Storytelling Day? It is a special day where people all over the world tell and listen to stories in different languages and places, all on the same day! It's a way for storytellers to share ideas, inspire each other, and make new friends across the world. This event is important because it helps people see storytelling as a real art and brings attention to how magical stories can be! ✨
This event focuses on verbal or spoken stories, but they can also be from a book or written on paper or electronically, a TV show, a movie or even a YouTube video. Everyone has a favourite story!
This years theme for World Storytelling Day 2025 is Deep Water 🌊! If you want to learn more about "Deep Water" or the ocean, check out this awesome documentary from BBC Earth on YouTube:

A Deep Sea visual story we recommend
My favourite Deep Water related movie is "Song of the Sea", it is a really sweet movie about a young mute girl (mute means cannot or does not want to talk or speak). The story blends elements of Gaelic culture and beliefs into real family events and dynamics. The music is just beautiful and really matches the whole feel of the movie. Be careful you might need tissues and that is not because of the water theme 😂!
